Phyllis Mae Nickolson, 87, of Sioux City, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 15, 2026. A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 21, 2026 at First Congregational Church.
She was born in Clay Center, Nebraska in 1938 to Floyd and Priscilla (Till) Alberding. Phyllis graduated as valedictorian from Whiting High School in 1956. She married Robert L. Nickolson on October 11, 1958, at the First Congregational Church in Whiting, IA. She was a co-founder of Perry Creek Nursery School in Sioux City and worked in several office management positions prior to her retirement. She was a 67 year member of the First Congregational Church in Sioux City.
Phyllis loved birding with her husband Bob and attending local and state Audubon events. She enjoyed attending Sioux City Municipal Band concerts each summer and fishing trips with Bob to Canada and Niobrara, Nebraska.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Leonard and Dwight, and is survived by husband Bob Nickolson of Sioux City Iowa, daughter Claudia Nickolson of Wagram, North Carolina, son Brian Nickolson of Geneseo Illinois, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Heritage at Northern Hills, Pioneer Valley Care Center and Hospice of the Midwest for their wonderful care.
