Gerald Joseph Salem

Gerald Joseph Salem, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, at St. Alexius in Hoffman Estates, IL, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 2, 1951, in Chicago, IL, the son of John and Marie (née Orlando) Salemi. Gerald dedicated his life to loving his family and serving his community.
Jerry's journey continued in Franklin Park, IL, where he grew up with a passion for sports and a determination that would define much of his life. He graduated from East Leyden High School in 1969, where he distinguished himself on the football field as an All-Conference Center. His athletic spirit was only matched by his dedication to those around him.
In 1976, Jerry married the love of his life, Carol J. Muzzey, and together they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. As a devoted father, he raised two sons, Brian (Christa) and Kevin (Brooke), instilling in them the values of hard work, kindness, and integrity. Jerry's legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren, Annabelle, Logan, Dane, and Harper, who were the light of his life.
Jerry proudly served in the Illinois National Guard, where he learned the importance of service and commitment, and cooking as a mess hall chef. These values carried over into his 50-year career in the plumbing industry, where he became a respected plumbing contractor and owner since 1976. His dedication to his craft and his clients earned him a reputation as a skilled and trustworthy professional.
Jerry was preceded in death by his dear brother, David Salem; his father, John Salemi; and his mother, Marie Salemi. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife Carol, sons and their wives, and his cherished grandchildren. His family remembers him not only for his hard work and dedication but also for his sense of humor, his unwavering commitment to his family, and his love.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on December 19, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. Francis, 135 S. Buesching Rd, Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Following the service, a private luncheon will be held to celebrate Gerald's life and the many ways he touched the lives of those around him.
