Friends will be received at the funeral home Sunday from 2pm to 5pm. Funeral procession will form Monday at 9:00am at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:00am Burial St. Mary's Cemetery. Gerald "Gerry" Schatzel, 89, of Greenkill Avenue, Kingston NY passed away July 5, 2025 at the home of his son Michael in Lake Katrine where he resided the last five weeks. He was born May 27, 1936 a son of the late Raymond and Margaret (Coffey) Schatzel. Gerry woke up everyday before the sun rose to get the day started to work. He worked everyday of his life until June 2024. He didn't want to retire but his body did. Originally, he started out as owner of Peacock Painters, and in 1985 he started GMS Construction with his son Michael until he went on his own. Tuffy joined his dad when he retired from Kingston Police Department and they worked together side by side everyday. Gerry was an avid NY Giants fan. He enjoyed watching his golf shows on TV as well as Fox News all the time. He enjoyed family time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a proud Poppy. Surviving are his daughters Linda Schatzel of Kingston, Theresa Schatzel of Connelly, two sons Michael Schatzel of Lake Katrine and Peter Schatzel of Greenville. He is also survived by a sister Helene (Daryl) Sorg of Kingston as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his best friend Frank Gillespie. A special thanks to Dr. Cheryl Colbert and his caretaker Elizabeth Smith. He was predeceased by his son Gerald "Tuffy" Schatzel, Jr., two sisters Maryann (Robert) VanWagenen, Agnes Butler, brothers George, Thomas, Raymond, Vincent and Henry "Hank" Schatzel.
