Gerald Schell

Gerald S. Schell, 89, Topeka, Kansas, retired Army veteran, and loving husband and father, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

Gerald was born November 13, 1936, in Topeka, the son of Casper and Petronella Hertlein Schell and was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He graduated from Hayden Catholic High School and then enlisted in the US Army. Gerald served five years in the Army before joining the Army National Guard, retiring with 24 years of combined service. Gerald was employed by Goodyear and was a member of United Steel Workers Local 307. He retired with 33 years of service.

On November 20, 1965, Gerald and Ramona Aumiller were married enjoying 60 years together prior to Ramona's death December 28, 2025.

Survivors include Gerald's daughter, Janell Pratt; grandchildren, Michelle Marzetta, Ryan Pratt and Lindsay Schell; great-grandchildren, Ashely Steed and Bobby DeLorge; and daughter-in-law, Linda Schell.

Gerald was also preceded in death by his son, Ramon Schell, and his brothers, Tom, Larry and Vince Schell.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Rochester Cemetery.
