Gerald Slaughter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Reeder-Davis Funeral Home- Hughes Springs from Dec. 21 to Dec. 22, 2025.
Funeral services for Gerald "Tony" Slaughter, 82, of Corpus Christi, Texas will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 29 2025 in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation with family and friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Gerald A. "Tony" Slaughter passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, with his children by his side. He was born December 28, 1942 in Hughes Springs, Texas, to Ira and Merle Slaughter.

Tony graduated from Hughes Springs High School before earning his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Baylor University. He also served with honor and distinction as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for meritorious service during the Vietnam War.

While known for being a man of few words, Tony loved his family deeply. As a lifelong sportsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and competing in skeet tournaments. He also looked forward to football season every year, setting aside his Saturdays in the fall to watch college ball, especially his Baylor Bears.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Slaughter, and his parents. He is survived by his son, Allen Slaughter of Royse City, Texas; his daughter Suzanne Risley of Houston, Texas; his brother Gary (Marla) Slaughter of Allen, Texas; brother Les Slaughter of Hughes Springs, Texas; sister Marsha Slaughter of San Mateo, California; a niece, nephews, and other much-loved family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Arden Hanes American Legion Post 351 in Hughes Springs, Texas.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. Tony and I spoke a few times on Facebook asking how we each were doing. He will truly be missed! He was a great guy from high school in our class of 1961!

To the family, wish we could be there. Love and prayers for you in this time of sorrow. Tony was and always will be my hero. When we were very young, he carried me over a very large anthill covered in red ants. Love you all and thinking of you. It is hard to think of a world without Tony being there.

Tony was special. He was president of our senior class in 1961. Always a gentleman, everybody looked up to Tony, not only because he was very tall. He will be missed by many. Mitsie Amox Wailes.
