Geraldine Chambers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lauer Family Funeral Homes - Concord on Jan. 29, 2026.
Geraldine E. "Gerry" Chambers, age 98, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, at The Laurels in Coldwater, Michigan, surrounded by family.

She was born at the family farm in Hanover on February 17, 1927, to Emory and Faye Barnhart. She was born alongside her twin brother, Gerald, affectionately known as Pete.

Geraldine shared a devoted marriage with John Chambers, known to everyone as Jack. They were married on November 27, 1946, beginning a partnership that spanned decades and remained a cornerstone of her life. Family was always at the center of her world, a value she carried throughout her life.

Geraldine enjoyed many activities but had a competitive spirit. Whether playing dominoes, cards, or working on puzzles, she played to win and often did. She especially enjoyed dominoes and took pride in her victories, always accompanied by a playful sense of humor that stayed with her through the years.

Geraldine and Jack shared many simple pleasures together, including square dancing, camping, working side by side in the yard, and meeting weekly with lifelong friends to play cards.

She enjoyed gardening and caring for her chickens and took comfort in daily routines. She also loved scrapbooking and creating photo albums, preserving family memories with care. A cold Pepsi and plain M&M;'s were among her favorite treats.

Above all, Geraldine treasured time with her family. She expressed her love in quiet, thoughtful ways and shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Gus, who provided companionship and comfort.

In the last five years of her life, Geraldine was lovingly cared for by Carol and Doug, allowing her to return to the farm life she cherished. Surrounded by gardens, animals, and family, she found comfort and contentment in familiar surroundings.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, John (Jack) Chambers; her parents, Emory and Faye Barnhart; her brother, Dale "Barney" Barnhart; her sister, Phyllis Dubina; and her twin brother, Gerald "Pete" Barnhart.

She is survived by her daughters, Darlene (David) Sutton of Florida and Denise (George) Truscott of Michigan, and her son, Doug (Carol) Chambers; her grandchildren: Lori (Paul) Appleby of Maryland; Lisa Sutton of Florida; Angie Householder (Aaron McCrory) of Michigan; D.J. Chambers of Michigan; Jacob Shepherd of Michigan; Amy (Paul) Adams of Michigan; Travis Truscott of Michigan; Corey (Elizabeth) Walmsley of Michigan; and Nicole (Daniel) Pyle of Indiana; by her great-grandchildren: Nicole Appleby of Florida; Rachel Appleby of Maryland; Mya (William) Beck of Minnesota; Vincent Bruno of Michigan; Kennedy Adams of Michigan; Dakota (Mya) Householder of Michigan; Wyatt (Karyssa) Householder of Michigan; Jayden Householder of Michigan; Curtis, Claire, Simon, Alexander, and Benjamin Pyle of Indiana; and Alex and Izzy Walmsley of Michigan. three great-great-grandsons, Harrison, Theodore, and Samson, as well as nieces and nephews Dean (Chris) Barnhart, Linda (Tim) McDaniels, and Beverly (Don) Brankovich.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Gentiva Hospice, and to Carol and Lori for their compassionate care and support during Geraldine's final days.

A service celebrating Geraldine's life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Lauer Funeral Home in Concord, Michigan. Geraldine's family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. A luncheon will follow at the Pulaski Township Hall.

Geraldine will be remembered for her love of family, her enjoyment of friendly competition, and her pride in a well-kept garden.
