Geraldine Jean "Geri" Davis, of Ames, formerly of Vinton, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025, 6 hours short of her 90th birthday, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames.
A memorial service to celebrate Geri's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 11, at the Vinton Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Johannes "Hans" Poetschner officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church, on Tuesday. Private family committal services will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Geri and her family.
Geri was born on February 7,1935 in Iowa Falls, the daughter of Charles W. and Leona L. Fuller Pierce. After graduating from Iowa Falls High School, she attended and graduated from Central Airline School in Kansas City, MO. She also attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD.
On February 26, 1954, Geri was united in marriage with James E. Anderson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1982. On December 27, 1983, Geri was united in marriage with Burton M. Davis at the Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2013.
Geri worked as a law secretary for attorneys in Waterloo, Sioux City, Belvidere, IL and Vinton. She also worked as the secretary to the Superintendent of the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton, retiring in 1983.
Geri was a Cub Scout and Brownie Leader for her children while they were growing up. After moving to Vinton in 1973, Geri was very active in the community. She was a member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church where she served on the Memorial Committee for 15 years, acted as a Deacon and participated in Circle. She also was a member of P.E.O. Chapter HG, Vinton Women's Club, Early Arts Club, Mentor Literature Club and the Vinton Country Club. Geri also enjoyed traveling, playing golf and bridge, and spending time with her friends in the DLB. Above all she cherished the time spent with her family.
Geri is survived by one son, Michael (Amy) Anderson of Valley, NE; two daughters: Lori (Frank) Grosso of Solana Beach, CA and Linda (Kevin) Lauver of Ames; brother, Jon C. Pierce of Blodgett, MO; seven grandchildren: Megan (Ben) Romey of Omaha, NE, Mallory (Drew) Blake of Nashville, TN, Colin Anderson of Chicago, IL, Andrew (Mary) Lauver of Rockwell City, Jacob (Caitlyn) Lauver of Rockwell City, Angie (Craig) Merchant of Vinton and Joe Radcliffe of Vinton; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; daughter Linda Radcliffe; and several other family members.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Vinton Presbyterian Church or Evergreen Cemetery.
