Geraldine "Jerrye" Heffley Hoyt passed away on Monday, March 10th, 2024 at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her husband Milo and 3 brothers Slim, Stan and John Heffley. Jerrye is survived by children; David (Carol) Hoyt, Bruce (Linda) Hoyt, Tim (Cathy) Hoyt, LaDonna Hoyt and Tony (Mandy) Hoyt. Brother; Del (Camille) Heffley, 25 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, 17.5 great great grandchildren and 2 great great great grandchildren.
Jerrye was born in Hoyt, Oklahoma and attended the Whitefield grad school where she walked to school 2 miles each way and attended Stigler High School where she was Football Queen in her senior year. She moved to California right after graduation and married her high school sweetheart Milo Hoyt from Hoyt, Oklahoma. English was always her favorite subject and went on to earn her degree to be an English teacher and English as a Second Language teacher. She taught at Mission High School, Kennedy High School, American High School all in Fremont and also at the Fremont Adult School.
Jerrye was a long-time member and deacon at the Irvington Presbyterian Church in Fremont, California. She was an avid walker and runner that participated in many 5K and 10K events and learned to ride horses in her 70's. She had a love for pink roses and filled her yards with them. In July of 2020 she moved to Haven, Kansas to live with her son Tim and daughter-in-law Cathy where she passed away peacefully with family at her bedside.
Funeral services will be held in Kansas on Thursday, March 14th and again at Berge Pappas Smith Chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, California on Saturday, March 23rd with a viewing at 10:00 and the service at 11:00, a reception immediately following. Jerrye will be laid to rest at the Irvington Memorial Cemetery where she will be re-united with her husband of 53 years, Milo Hoyt.
