Geraldine Ruth McClellan
Geraldine passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 9:55 AM at the MediLodge of
Gaylord, Michigan at the ripe young age of 96. She was born in
Ferndale, Michigan on Sunday November 28, 1926, the daughter of the late Horase and Katherine Hall, she was the sixth of seven children.
An exceedingly independent woman for the times, she was active in several clubs and held several jobs throughout the years. These included being a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars in the local Yale Chapter, a member of the Michigan Nature Association that took her tramping through forest looking and reporting on various species of flower and artifacts, a member of the National Audubon Society, a 4-H leader for Sanilac County, a member of the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies (IARA), a foster grandparent in the Wadham's and Yale School districts, an Elder Care provider in St. Clair County, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Post 8 of Port Huron. Geraldine also worked at the Yale Rubber Factory and was a school bus driver for the Cros-Lex School district.
Geraldine was a typical farmer's wife, driving tractors, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables, filling a freezer full of beef and chicken (that she raised) right next to mink and muskrats the young boys trapped for extra money all while raising six children. Since she was young, singing and dancing were her passion. Her sisters and her sang at surrounding area events. Donna, the oldest sister played piano and sang as Lois, Geraldine, Kathern, and their mother harmonized. She was also an esteemed ballroom dancer and an avid Euchre card player, so she claimed. No moss grew under Geraldine's feet as she was always on the go.
She is survived by one sibling, Kathern Jurn of Yale; her six children, Steven D. McClellan of
Phoenix, AZ, Bette Jo (Larry) Sharpe of
Mountain Grove, MO, Jeffery J. McClellan of Gage Town, MI, Joan M. Clay (Tom Jaruzel) of
Vanderbilt, MI, Scott D. (Debbie) McClellan of
Lawton, OK and Brent J. McClellan of
Caro, MI. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, William (Christina) Clay, Andrew (Melissa) Clay, Jake T. (Rachel) McClellan, Dr. Brandi L. McClellan. In addition, she is survived by her 3 great-grandchildren: Tara and Kayla Clay, and Christopher McClellan.
