Geraldine Bell McAlpin Patterson, fondly known as Gerry, passed away on October 8, 2023, in Clinton, MS. She was born on December 14, 1935, in Claiborne County, MS. Gerry's life was marked by a deep love for her family and an unwavering commitment to her community.
Gerry's education began in Petal, MS, where she attended school until her family relocated to Jackson, MS. She completed her schooling at Bailey Junior High and Central High School, graduating with the Class of 1954. The two crossed paths while working at Jackson City Hall. William had just returned from the Korean War working for the Tax Collector's Office while Gerry worked as a Secretary for Mayor Allen Thompson until their first child was born.
Devoted to her family, Gerry embraced the role of homemaker and stay-at-home mom with great joy. Her children were the center of her world, and she poured all her love and energy into raising them alongside her beloved husband William. Their marriage in 1956 was a union built on love and mutual support.
In 2007, Gerry and William made their home in Pearl, MS. Prior to settling in Pearl, they resided in Hattiesburg for a few years. Deeply rooted in their faith, Gerry became an active member of Pearl United Methodist Church. She found immense joy in attending services and actively participating in church activities.
Throughout her life, Gerry eagerly engaged with various clubs and organizations within her community. She took pride in being a part of the PTA throughout her children's graduations, the Safety Promoters Club, The Cityettes Club, Gourmet Club, Girl Scout Leader, the Spring Lake Garden Club, Keep Pearl Beautiful and was also a valued member of Pearl Senior Citizens.
Traveling held a special place in Gerry's heart. She relished every opportunity to embark on memorable summer vacation trips with her children. These adventures created cherished memories that will forever be treasured by her loved ones. Additionally, Gerry found solace and contentment in tending to her yard, surrounded by beautiful flowers, and losing herself in the pages of a good book.
Gerry is survived by her devoted husband, Bill Patterson of Pearl; her loving daughter, Jill Patterson Silvey of Pearl; her son, Douglas (Donna) Patterson of Charleston, SC; her beloved grandson, Jared Scott Silvey; as well as grandsons Jack Patterson and Nicholas Patterson. She is also survived by her brother O.T. McAlpin of Raymond, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents Ruport and Newell Scott McAlpin, and siblings, Arnold McAlpin, Clarice Seal, Michael McAlpin, and Carolyn Moulder.
The gentle soul of Gerry touched the lives of all who knew her. She was dedicated to helping children, nurture them, protect them and help them grow. Her warm smile, nurturing spirit, and boundless love for her family and community will forever be remembered. While we mourn the loss of a remarkable woman, let us also celebrate the life she lived and the legacy she leaves behind.
