Geraldine Tomlinson Sutphin

Geraldine (Gerri) Tomlinson Sutphin, a resident of Thomasville, GA, who peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Archbold Medical Center. She was born in Statenville, GA, and she was preceded in death by her parents Cara Frances Prine and Talley Tomlinson. Gerri spent her early years in Valdosta before graduating from Valdosta High School in the mid-1940s. She dedicated over two decades of her life to W.T. Grant's Department Store, starting as an office manager and eventually helping to establish new stores before retiring. Following her first retirement, Gerri pursued her passion for serving others by working as a cashier in food service at Valdosta State College, where she rose to the position of head cashier before her second retirement in 2005.
Gerri's family meant the world to her, and she cherished every moment spent with her daughter and son-in-law, Janiz and Vernon Arnold, her sister Audrey Dasher. Gerri was also a loving grandmother and great-grandmother to Anna Arnold, Laura (Boris) Kostovetsky, Brande (Bryant) Ragsdale, and Eleanor and Sophie Chubb, Parker Arnold, Kathryn Kostovetsky, Wesley (Fabi) Kostovetsky, Solomon Morton, Jacob, Mia, Isabella Kostovetsky, and Nicholas and Reuben Ragsdale. She will be missed by her stepdaughter, Dana Walker, and her nieces and nephews: Tommy and Ronnie Dampier, Cara Tomlinson, Scott Tomlinson, and Jeff Tomlinson. Gerri was preceded in death by her first husband, J.W. Damon, her second husband John F. Sutphin, Jr., brothers David Tomlinson, Elton Byrd Tomlinson and John Talley Tomlinson, and her granddaughter Rebecca Catherine Mullis.
A funeral service for Gerri will take place at 2pm on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the McLane Riverview Mausoleum.
