Geraldine Viola Tonsfeldt

Geraldine Tonsfeldt, age 97, of Sabin, MN, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Sheyenne Crossings, West Fargo, ND.

Geraldine Viola “Gerry” Tonsfeldt, daughter of Frank and Hazel Garrison, was born July 8, 1927, in Rolla, ND, one of seven children. She attended school and grew up near St. John, ND, graduating from St. John High School. She moved to Moorhead, MN, and was floor manager of F.W. Woolworth Store for many years.

Gerry married Doyle Tonsfeldt in Sabin, MN, November 20, 1954. The couple made their home and farmed in Alliance Township until Doyle’s death in 2000. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Sabin, participating in the Quilting group, teaching Sunday School, and vacation Bible School. Gerry was a member of Alliance Township homemakers, an avid biker, walker, bowler, reader, a talented sewer, crafter, and decorator. And volunteered at St. Ansgar Hospital for 13 years.

Her big love was her family, her husband, Doyle, of 47 years, children and grandchildren. Finding great joy in watching them participate in their various activities. Gerry also built enduring family memories and friendships while enjoying time at their Lake Lizzie cabin.

Gerry is survived by her children, Dawn (Donny) Sass of Williston, Darrin (Myrna) Tonsfeldt of West Fargo, and Blayne (Becky) Tonsfeldt of Moorhead; grandchildren, Cale Sass, Mari Tonsfeldt, Dylan Tonsfeldt, Allysa (Mike) Anderson, Justin (Tayler) Tonsfeldt, and Brooke Tonsfeldt; great-grandchildren, Rhett Anderson, Holt Anderson, and Hudson Tonsfeldt.

Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Hazel Garrison; husband Doyle Tonsfeldt; infant son, Jay; brothers, Marvin, Merle, and Harold Garrison; sisters, Dorothy Ikel and Violet Cherry.

Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 P.M., Friday, June 20, 2025, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Burial will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Sabin, MN, following the services in Moorhead.
