Geraldine Evalyn Weems
November 26, 1945 – July 20, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Geraldine Evalyn Weems, beloved mother, grandmother, fiancé, and friend, on July 20, 2025. She was 79 years old.
Born on November 26, 1945, to Roland and Evalyn Koehler, Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Dale Koehler, Jerry Koehler, Lois Compayre, Kurt Koehler, and Rusty Koehler. She was also preceded in death by her devoted husband, Thomas Weems.
Geraldine is survived by her loving fiancé, Sonny Taylor, her children Rod Weems (Christie) and Jennifer Clarke (David), and her grandchildren Kaylee Clarke, Jay Clarke, Tucker Weems (Megan), and Ryan Spurling.
Geraldine was a woman of extraordinary warmth and generosity. She had a lifelong love of birds, spending countless hours caring for and feeding them. Known by many generations of Gadsden, Alabama residents as a champion diver and swim instructor, she inspired countless children in her role as both a swim and diving coach. Her grandchildren have fond memories of her teaching them card games, her passion for trampolining, and her days as a cheerleader in her youth. She especially cherished the simple joys of hunting for four-leaf clovers with her son.
Above all, Geraldine was a woman of deep faith, sharing her love of God with all who crossed her path. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, July 23. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM at Glencoe Hokes Bluff Funeral Home.
