Geraldine Widmayer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bevis Funeral Home - Tallahassee on Dec. 21, 2025.
Geraldine "Gerry" Kimble Widmayer, 99, of North Miami Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025. She was born in Trenton, New Jersey, to Helen and Stanley Kimble. After her father's passing, Gerry and her mother moved to Miami, where Gerry would spend the rest of her remarkable life.

Gerry was a social worker with a gift for helping people in practical, life-changing ways. She was extraordinarily generous-the kind of person who quietly stepped in when people needed help most, offering financial support, a listening ear, or simply an open door. She purchased a duplex in North Miami Beach and wisely rented out the other side, often helping her tenants navigate life's challenges with patience and kindness.

A woman of many talents, Gerry was a gifted seamstress and quilter, part of a quilting group that created beautiful, meaningful pieces. She loved to sew, garden, and constantly reinvent her living space-transforming the same couch for decades with hand-made covers and pillows, making everything feel fresh and new. She had an open-door policy, especially for the neighborhood children, who gathered at her home for art projects and life lessons. She taught gardening, shared the wonder of watching pineapples grow, and hand-crafted special gifts with care and love.

Gerry had a joyful spirit. She loved to drive with the radio blasting, singing at the top of her lungs and laughing so loud that passersby couldn't help but smile. She enjoyed playing cards around the kitchen table with dear friends, sipping a gin cocktail (never more than two), and sneaking tidbits to the cats that were always part of her life. She loved cats deeply and kept her bedroom window open so neighborhood cats could visit, eat, and lounge in her home.

She was smart with her money, always had her documents in order, and lived simply but richly-never installing air conditioning in Miami, but filling her home with warmth, creativity, and friendship. Her circle included dear friends George (who predeceased her during COVID) and his partner Nadine, and Judy Kelly of Texas, who treasures memories of their decades-long friendship.

Gerry will be remembered as funny, smart, talented, and an absolute joy to be around-someone truly special who touched lives in ways both large and small.

Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Stanley Kimble, and her dear friend George. She had no surviving children or known living relatives.

Gerry will be cremated, and her final resting place will be at Parkhill Cemetery. Todd Wahlquist is assisting the family with their arrangements (850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com).

As a child, Gerry taught me how to whistle which drove my grandmother crazy. It's one of my strongest memories from childhood and I love her for giving it to me.

My wife and I were blessed to have the pleasure and privilege of ministering to Ms. Jerry at the Assisted Living Facility where she resided. She was a regular attendee at the Bible Studies and Chapel Services we held there. She was a joy to be around, and her smile was so warm and embracing! She loved to sing during Praise and Worship...and her spirit was truly genuine. We always looked forward to ministering to her and she will always be with us in Spirit. Thank the Lord for her presence in our lives...her memory remains precious!

For any of Gerry´s friends, I wanted to share a photo of myself and my son, we didn´t have the pleasure of meeting Gerry, but are related through her cousin, Arabelle Pennypacker (Kimble) ; who was a beloved grandmother to my siblings and I, also passed at 99 years of age in December of 2016. Would love to learn anything we cab about Gerry and wish I could tell her how strong the roots are! I unknowingly was having a gin while reading her obit and couldn´t help but smile. She sounds like living was something willed inside her that she took pride in and I hope those with her memory think of her well and often. Regards,
