Gerard Jacquinot, 93, of South Scranton, died Sunday after a brief stay at Marywood Heights. His wife of 62 years is the former Mary Ann Gilmartin.

Born in the Marvine section of Scranton, he was the fifth child of the late Patrick and Mary Sullivan Hickey. Following the death of his mother, he became the son of the late Charles and Alice Dempsey Jacquinot. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish until its closing, and later St. Paul of the Cross and St. Theresa of Calcutta Parish.

A 1949 graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Jerry was a United States Army veteran. He was employed as a union lather and was a member of the Lathers Union, Local 4, where he served as union president. He was a 70-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 445. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Van Mor Plastering Co. for 28 years. He was very proud of his trade as he had the opportunity to work on many public buildings throughout Northeast Pennsylvania, including churches, schools and hospitals.

Humble and hardworking, Jerry was supportive of many community organizations. As a universal blood donor, he never missed an opportunity to donate. He was honored to be able to use his skills to help build quality and lasting homes for his family and many others. He was proud of his Irish heritage, known as a loyal friend and good neighbor, dedicated to his family and devoted to his Catholic faith.

Also surviving are his children, Michele Ditchkus and husband, John; Anne Rizk and husband, Toufic; Gerard Jacquinot and wife, Susan; and Sister Maryalice Jacquinot, I.H.M.; his grandchildren, Nina Rizk and husband, Andrew Choma; Victoria Ruth and husband, Andrew; Michael Rizk and Brie Baumert; Emma Rizk; Alexandra Deuel and husband, Tyler; Catherine Rizk and Anna Jacquinot; a brother, Thomas Hickey and wife, Jane; a sister-in-law, Gilda Gilmartin; and a brother-in-law, Michael Gilmartin and wife, Nada; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Joseph Hickey, Carl Sullivan, Alice Babinec, Anne Jacquinot, Jean McHugh and Evelyn Quell; and a brother-in-law, Robert Gilmartin.
