Gerard Manning Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmichael Funeral Homes - Smyrna on Mar. 9, 2026.
Gerard Joseph "Jerry" Manning passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Edward and Mary Manning of Newfoundland, where he remained until moving his family to Georgia in 1971. Jerry was a lifelong Roman Catholic who never met a stranger. He served in the Army MASH unit stationed in Germany and was a political enthusiast. He was an avid runner and a regular participant in the Peachtree Road Race. In his later years, he enjoyed watching business networks and sharing stock tips with his children. He maintained his sharp mind throughout his life, even as doing so became more difficult. Jerry will be remembered for his striking blue eyes, his quick wit and his gift of conversation, as well as his Thanksgiving "Pie Day" tradition.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Raymond Manning. He is survived by his children, Christine Manning, Peter Manning (Jennifer) and Stephen Manning (Brandee) and his most cherished grandchildren, Mackenzie, Luke, and Travis. He is also survived by his brother, Edward Manning (Adele), and his sister Margaret "Peg" Manning, along with his ex-wife, Maureen. The family will celebrate his life, and the memories shared, in a private mass at a later date. We pray for the repose of his soul and ask God to grant him peace, mercy and eternal rest. He will be dearly missed and forever loved.
