My father Gerardo Amaya was born in Junín-Cundinamarca Colombia on a beautiful March 13, 1931. He was the youngest son of 13 siblings. During his childhood he enjoyed a country life and horseback riding through the beautiful fields of that lovely area of the country. At 17 he decided to go to the city of Bogotá and at a very young age he became the Father of Luz Dary Amaya. He then married our mother Maria Elena Gutierrez on November 1, 1959. From this marriage were born Jenny Dolly Amaya (DOD 13-8-08), Doris Stella Amaya, Marta Elena Amaya and Ginapaola Amaya. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Saint John Nuemann Catholic Church 791 Tom Smith Road Lilburn, GA 30047. A get together celebration will follow the service until 1:00 PM at the church.
As a child I remember riding on his back for hours and tickling each other until I couldn't anymore. My father and his deep love for us will always be with us. In his youth, Gerardo always had a passion for knowing places and people. He studied at the dental school where he practiced his career for a time helping neighbors and friends in emergencies. He also worked for a time in the administration of hotel restaurants, which made him a man of knowledge of good taste in cooking and he enjoyed sharing his culinary experiences with family and friends. A genuine, cheerful and friendly man who won the love of everyone with his simplicity, few words but deep love for his family and friends. He dedicated his last 26 years of life completely to being the ideal grandfather, taking on the role of companion, for games, practices, schools and always looking to feed them and also take them as a pimp to each one's favorite place and savoring a McChicken, his favorite. The most dedicated and proud grandfather always. He loved this country that opened its doors and enjoyed a peace that allowed him to travel the roads and drive calmly where he also connected with the culture, work and found his hobby in bowling. At 93 years old he was a member of the adult league and last year he was the leader of his league where they gave him the honor of carrying the torch at the opening of the Olympics for the elderly. He enjoyed a lot with his friends being the only Latino and without speaking English, they loved him and he loved them. My mother describes him like this: He was a fantastic man with an overwhelming way of dealing with people, I really enjoyed watching him succeed and he always seemed happy to be in this country, a man admired by all, in my life he represented love, reality, joy and always present willing to lead a life in harmony and peace, a magnificent father ready to help the (older) girls be well and knowing that if any of them needed him he was there for them.
We enjoyed being together in our last years and life gave me the opportunity to thank him for what he did by being my partner, my friend, and being very aware of me and my needs, indulging my whims and pampering my desires. We really enjoyed our breakfasts together and going out in the car to shop, he will always be with me as my best life partner. Thank you, I love you Daddy/Grandpa is leaving but his mark is eternal Our love is infinite His grandchildren Juan Pablo Pérez María Fernanda Lancheros Angélica María Pérez Laura Liliana Lancheros Sebastián Cardenas Samuel Cardenas Jacob Kelley Scott Isaac Amaya Scott Thank you for your great love
