Geremia DeVito

DEVITO, Geremia Theodore "Jerry" (Papa), age 103 of New Britain passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021. Preceded in death by his wife Mary DeVito, parents Ralph and Frances DeVito, daughters Rosemarie Anderson, Francis Cahill, and son Thomas, sisters Carmela, Fannie and Jean, and brothers Lewis and Joseph and granddaughter Susan Cahill and great-grandson Steven Anderson. He is survived by 3 grandsons William Anderson, Steven Anderson, and Melvin Cahill, 4 granddaughters Mary Catania, Christine Anderson, Geraldine Marchewka, and Rose Cahill, 22 great-children and 36 great-great grandchildren, niece Susanne Farinaccio, and his beloved friend Connie Wagner. His family wants to express their gratitude and love to his devoted caregiver Luz Molina. Luz helped make his daily life worth living and was instrumental in helping Papa keep in touch with his distant grandchildren. Jerry was a devoted grandfather who enjoyed hearing stories about their lives and especially looked forward to their pictures and video calls. Jerry served in World War II in the New York Coastal Artillery, worked in the Navy shipyards for Bethlehem Steel and was drafted into the U.S. Navy as an Apprentice Seaman. He was also active a contributing member for the Disabled American Veterans for many years, reaching top donor in 2006. Jerry retired from Fafnir Bearing as a shift foreman in 1980. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. A calling hour will be on Thursday April 29th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Rose Hill Funeral Home 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill, CT followed by a service at 11 a.m. The burial at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill will immediately follow.
