Gerritt Thomas Jones was born on August 14, 1988, to Oscar and Carol Jones
at Samuel Merritt Hospital in Oakland, California. He transitioned holding his
mother's and father's hands, with his sister and son by his side, on Sunday,
October 26, 2025, at Kaiser Hospital in Antioch, California. Gerritt lived a rich
life marked by service, creativity, and deep devotion to his family, business,
and community.
Even though Gerritt was a resident of Antioch, CA, he persuaded his parents
to allow him to attend El Cerrito High School to be with his childhood
baseball friends. Gerritt graduated from El Cerrito High in 2006. Gerritt's
journey was one of purpose and passion. In May 2009, he enlisted in the

Infantry Regiment of the 198th Infantry Brigade at Fort Benning, Georgia.
During his military service, he distinguished himself as an Infantry Marksman.

for his role in the Global War on Terrorism. Continuing his commitment to
national service, Gerritt joined the Army National Guard Reserves in January
2011, where he served for three additional years before starting his own
armed guard security business.
In June 2016, Gerritt took his passion for protection and community
empowerment to new heights when he co-founded Black Anchor Tactical
Response with his father. This armed security business was more than a
career-it was an extension of Gerritt's desire to give back and create safer
environments for those around him. His work reflected not only
professionalism but also compassion and integrity.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gerritt was known for his vibrant
personality and generous spirit. He had a big heart, an infectious smile, and a
sense of humor that made him beloved by many. Whether he was cracking
jokes as a natural comedian or bringing characters to life as an actor, Gerritt's
animated presence left lasting impressions wherever he went.
A gifted singer and writer, Gerritt found joy in creating music that spoke from the
soul. He also produced several Gospel albums. He poured his energy into
coaching youth baseball and basketball-mentoring young athletes with
patience and dedication. His love for sports extended beyond the field; he was an
avid fan of the San Diego Padres-especially Manny Machado, who became a
cherished friend and sent him signed jerseys and tennis shoes. He also cheered
passionately for the Golden State Warriors while sitting in his cherished courtside
seats.
Family meant everything to Gerritt. He cherished time spent with loved ones and
found fulfillment in being present for those closest to him.
He is lovingly remembered by his parents, whom he spoiled tremendously, Oscar
and Carol Jones; his sister, Jariell Jones; his grandfather, Carl Dupins; his two sons,
Zyaire and Gerritt Jones Jr., who were the light of his life; and his longtime
partner, Brianna Thompson.
Gerritt's legacy is also carried forward through the values instilled by those who
came before him. He joins in rest his paternal grandparents, Oscar T. Jones Sr.
and Ruby Jones; and maternal grandmother, Mary Jo Dupins.
A veteran, philanthropist, coach, musical artist and writer, entrepreneur, and avid
gun collector-and above all, a devoted father, son, and brother-Gerritt Thomas
Jones leaves behind a legacy of courage, creativity, laughter, and love.
He also leaves to cherish his memory childhood friends from the age of three,
known as the Richmond Reds (aka his "Boys" - Darnell, Marquis, Peter, Tyron Jr.,
Brian Guinn Jr.), and cousin Nicholas, who was like a brother to him, as well as
Daryl, Kalan, and Zemyran Prater; godparents Danyale Parrish-Webster and
Denise Brown; Chris Singleton; godson Hezekiah Lucas; and a host of loving
aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire acts
of kindness and strength in the world he helped shape and protect.
