Gerry Lee Wight, age 74, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
Gerry was born on March 27, 1951, in Garnett, Kansas, one of two sons born to Gerald "Bud" and Vergie (Ashburn) Wight. Gerry attended Irving School, later graduating from Garnett High School in 1969. After high school, he attended Flint Hills Tech School in Emporia, Kansas. In 1971, he was married to Julie Tush and had three children, Jennifer Lorene, Gerad Lee, and Jeremy Lucas. They later divorced. In 2012, Gerry met Nancy White, with whom he spent his golden years.
Gerry was a man of many talents and an entrepreneur. He worked for Allis Chalmers, Wolf Creek, John Deere, and Beckman Motors. In 1991, he opened an auto repair business named Gerry's Service. Then in 1997, he opened South Fork Traders where he sold guns and hunting and fishing gear. From 2005 to 2012, he owned and operated Titonka Trading Company in Salina, OK and Garnett, KS.
He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and shooting. He was particularly interested in the Mountain Man Rendezvous time period and spent time camping and black powder shooting. He was a gun enthusiast and was an influence in establishing the Lake Garnett Gun Club. He was a Cub Scout leader for the local Pack 3126. In later years, he enjoyed shooting pool in a league with friends. He also loved watching old western movies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Vergie Wight, and his brother, Joel Wight.
Gerry is survived by his companion, Nancy White; his daughter, Jennifer (Clint); sons, Gerad (Jenna) and Jeremy (Kellie), and extended family, Matthew, Andy, Bit, and Simeon, Eric; six grandchildren and ten bonus grandchildren whom he adored.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Gerry's family will greet friends on Wednesday evening, June 18, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Anderson County Youth Trap Team and left in the care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.feuerbornfuneral.com
