Sandra Wight Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel - Grand Ledge on Mar. 20, 2026.
Sandra Kay "Sandy" Wight, aged 84, of Grand Ledge, MI, went to be with the Lord on March 18, 2026. Sandy's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, her devotion to her loved ones, and her passion for nurturing not only her own children but also the many children she cared for in her home daycare.

Born on November 18, 1941, to John and Berniece (Butler) Stackman, Sandy was the light of her parents' lives. She grew up around her loving grandmother, Cora Butler, and five sisters; four of whom have predeceased her. Sandy attended Eastern High School in Lansing, graduating with the class of 1960.

On April 15, 1961, Sandy married her high school sweetheart, Claude Wight, and together they embarked on a journey of love and commitment that would span over six decades. Sandy and Claude settled in Grand Ledge, where they raised a family that became the center of Sandy's world. Their home was always filled with laughter, love, and the occasional chaos that comes with a large family.

Sandy's nurturing spirit extended beyond her home as she ran an in-home daycare for many years. She raised many children in Grand Ledge, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her love for children was evident in the way she embraced every opportunity to offer care, wisdom, and a listening ear.

A devoted member of the Grand Ledge Baptist Church for 56 years, Sandy was a pillar in her community, known for her kind-hearted and giving nature. Her faith was an integral part of her life, guiding her actions and providing comfort and strength throughout her journey.

Sandy's love for the outdoors was showcased in her passion for camping, an activity she enjoyed for over 50 years. In recent years, she found joy in setting up camp at Traverse City Holiday Park, where she made countless cherished memories with family and friends.

Sandy's legacy is carried on by her loving husband, Claude Wight; her children, Carri Phillips, Claude (Elizabeth) Wight, Chad (Shannon) Wight, Cori Hastings, and Bryce (Katherine) Wight; her ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, who were the apples of her eye; her sister, Joan (L.B.) Pentecost; and several nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. Her parents, John and Berniece Stackman, her grandmother, Cora Butler, four sisters, and son-in-law, Todd Hastings, preceded her in death, and she is undoubtedly reunited with them in heavenly peace.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at the Grand Ledge Baptist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Donations can be made in loving memory of Sandy to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Shared Women's Pregnancy Center in Lansing, MI.
