Richard Alden Wight, age 82, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026 at The Timbers on Blackwell Creek. He was born March 19, 1943 to Robert and Cecelia Wight in Washington, D. C.
Dick graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology participating in ROTC all four years. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, including service in Vietnam. After completing his military service, he earned a master's degree in marketing from the School of Business at Georgia State University.
He went on to build a successful career with Southern Company before founding his own business, Energy Market Solutions.
Above all, he has been devoted to his wife, Anita Adams Wight, with whom he has shared 59 wonderful years of marriage.
Dick is survived by his wife, Anita Wight of Big Canoe; daughter, Karen Nielsen of Mountain Brook, Alabama; daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Kevin Ham of Johnson City, Tennessee; grandchildren, Andrew Nielsen, Tristan Nielsen, Everett Ham, and Lainey Ham; nieces and nephews, Jennifer H. Casey of Round Hill, Virginia, Alicia W. Cole of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ronald Hall, Jr. of Mundelein, Illinois, Randy Hall of Crown Point, Indiana, and Robert Wight of Washington, D.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Cecelia Wight; brother, Dr. Robert Wight, Jr.; and sister, Louise Wight Hall.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14 at Big Canoe Chapel with Dr. David Apple officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Big Canoe Chapel at 10455 Big Canoe; Jasper, Georgia 30143.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
