Gertrude Christensen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greenlawn Funeral Home South on Nov. 3, 2025.
Gertrude (Mumm) Christensen, born in Harlan, Iowa on September 2, 1933, passed from this earth to her home in heaven on October 31, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 92.
Gert is preceded in death by her parents, Elvira and Arthur Mumm, her husband Leonard, her sisters, Lou Mumm and Ann Render, her brother Noel Mumm, and son-in-law Brian Bigler.
Gert is survived by her sibling, Arthur (Shirley) Mumm, and sister-in-law Linda Mumm. She is also survived by her four children, Pamela (Mike) Dupas, Julie Christensen, and her children, Erika (Tom) Chalker and Brandon (Maggie) Bigler, Jodi (Lance) Hanna and their daughter Katherine, and Eric Christensen and his children, Carina and Jake. She is survived by three great-grandchildren, Lillian, Marley, and Rosalie, who affectionately called her "Super-Nana".
Gert graduated from Harlan High School in Harlan, Iowa and went on to study nursing at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. After graduating nursing school she was employed in various nursing positions including working in the delivery room. She finished her career at Chapel Hill Nursing Home in Canal Fulton, Ohio. She then went on to co-own The Country Look, a sewing and specialties shop.
Gert loved traveling with her family throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. She had an impact upon every person she encountered, especially her grandchildren for whom she had an endless outpouring of love. She was caring, resilient, generous, strong, industrious, and witty. Her greatest joys were her love for the Lord and spending time with her family and friends. She was creative in finding ways to give gifts that were homemade. Her hobbies included crocheting afghans ("Nana-gans"), making quilts, and walking (including 10Ks) with family and friends. She loved to sing hymns loudly in church!
Gert will be buried with her husband in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in a private service on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
"It must have been a glorious occasion
Up in Heaven all golden and bright
When our Lord sitting high on His white shining throne
Said to His Son on His right,
"We must ready a place for a faithful child,
Let's fill it with flowers and light,
And send forth our welcoming angels,
Gert is coming Home tonight."
