Mrs. Gertrude “Gertie” Grooms Turnage, entered into rest on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at the age of 82. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel by Brent Taylor, with burial to follow in the Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
Mrs. “Gertie”, as she was affectionately known, was born on April 7, 1943 in Chesterfield, SC, to the late Walter Ray Grooms Sr. and Ola Lee Johnson Grooms. Mrs. Turnage was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was a devoted Christian lady who always put God first in everything and made her family a priority, especially her grandchildren. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and aunt. All children held a special place in her heart and Mrs. Turnage was beloved by everyone that knew her. She always had a smile on her face and an "I love you" on her lips despite her battle with Alzheimer's. She was a blessing to all . She retired from Weller Industries with 27 years of service.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Turnage was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ronald L. “Ronnie” Turnage, and her brothers, Jimmy, Ellis, and Ray.
She is survived by her children, Rene T. Wallace and her husband, Paul Wallace IV of Hartsville, SC; Byran Turnage and his wife, Lisa Turnage of Summerfield, NC; grandchildren, Landon Turnage, Brett Wallace, and Reagan Wallace; great grandchildren, Ava Turnage, and Karson Turnage; sisters, Kathy Grooms of Chesterfield, SC, and Vera (Lowell) Tolson of Anderson, SC; brother, Otis Grooms of Chesterfield, SC; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Turnage to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
