Ghada Maher Obituary

Ghada M. Maher, 82, of Hasbaya, Lebanon, passed away on March 12, 2024, after a brief illness.

Born August 10, 1941, in Beirut, Lebanon, Ghada studied history at the Beirut College for Women and later worked at Middle East Airlines at the Beirut airport. In 1967, she met Malek and they wed in 1969. Ghada and Malek lived in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. In 1985, they moved to North Adams, Massachusetts where they lived near their extended family in the Berkshires. They later moved to New Jersey where they lived and worked until 2009. Upon retirement, they returned to their beloved Lebanon and lived in Hasbaya near friends and family.

Ghada was an avid cook, passionate about bringing people together around the table for a traditional Lebanese meal of hummus, tabouli, and fatayer. She was a kind gentle humanitarian, always caring for those in need. Her true passion was her family, and she loved visiting and spending time with them in the United States. She was the best "Teta" to her grandson Lucas, whom she adored.

Ghada was predeceased by her parents Nazik and Tayseer Safadi. She is survived by her loving husband Malek, and leaves behind her daughter Dina Pilipczuk, husband Andrew and grandson Lucas (9), of Illinois; and her daughter Mona Webber and husband Benjamin, also of Illinois. She is also survived by her sisters Mona Bsat and Suzanne Safadi and brother Ayman Safadi, as well as many relatives from the Maher, Safadi, Halabi, Abu Dehn, and Bsat families.

Ghada was laid to rest in Hasbaya, Lebanon on March 13th. A private celebration of life service will be held in Illinois in April. She will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and everyone who knew her.
