Gilbert Edmunds, 88, of rural Waupun, passed away October 20, 2023 at his home.
Gilbert was born November 21,1934 to Clarence and Elsie Meyers Edmunds. Gib attended Waupun schools, and then joined the National Guard. While visiting a family and staying at a resort in Oxford, WI he met the love of his life, Sandra Szoke, and married her on February 19, 1955 in Carpentersville, IL. The couple moved to Waupun where Gib had a multitude of jobs including owning gas stations, a body shop, working at Central State and was involved in snowmobile sales. The couple owned and operated a restaurant up north. In 1980 they moved to Anchorage Alaska to work with his brother-in-law on Peterbilt and Mack trucks. While in Alaska he earned his captain and pilots licenses, got his own plane and boat and stayed there until 1985. Then they moved to Hawaii where he owned a boat for marlin fishing. In 1996 the couple moved back to Waupun to retire and spend time with their grandchild and family. Gib loved hunting and fishing. They traveled to Florida for the winters. He loved his Zero Turn lawn mower.
Gilbert is survived by his two sons: Douglas (Sandy) Edmunds of Waupun, and Brian (Mary Lou) Edmunds of Loretta, WI; grandson, Brian Edmunds of Loretta, WI; brother, Jack (Karen) Edmunds of Waupun; sister: Elaine Bishop of Waupun; sister-in-law, Linda Edmunds of Waupun; many nieces, nephews and friends; and especially life-long friends, Arlene Harvey, Francis and Marge Woolridge, and Phyllis Moldenhauer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra in 2020; parents; brother, Rick Edmunds; sister, Nancy Melchert; brother-in-law, Theodore Bishop; and nephews: Billy Melchert, Robert Melchert, and Allan Voight.
Funeral services for Gilbert Edmunds will be held Friday, October 27, 2023 at 12 noon at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun. Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Friday from 11am until the time of service.
