Gilbert Henry Hoppe Jr., affectionately known as Gil, was a beacon of light and a pillar of strength for all who knew him. Born on July 8, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri, Gil's journey on this earth came to a peaceful close on January 6, 2026, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, surrounded by the love of his family. His departure has left a void in the hearts of many, but his legacy of kindness and faith will forever remain.

Gil's life was one marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, his faith, and his community. A proud father, he leaves behind his devoted daughter, Christy Staton, and her husband, Robert, as well as his loving son, Kevin Hoppe. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Brandon Staton and his wife Nicci, Brittany Betbeze and her husband Travis, Joshua Staton, and Jacob Staton, as well as his nine great-grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. Gil was also blessed with a very special friend, Margaret Megiel, who brought immense joy and companionship to his later years. He now joins in Heaven his beloved parents, Gilbert and Mildred Hoppe, his sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Wayne Brannock, his nephew, Kurt Brannock, and his loving wife of 52 years, Loretta Hoppe, who preceded him in death.

A man of intellect and a love for learning, Gil earned a Business Degree with a minor in music. His professional life was a testament to his dedication and work ethic, having served as an Account Executive for the 3M company for over 30 years and later contributing his expertise to Saffelle Incorporated commercial cleaning supplies.

Gil's faith was the cornerstone of his existence. A devout Christian, he served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church in High Point, where he also lifted his voice in praise as a longstanding member of the church choir. His love for singing was only matched by his love for travel and the precious moments he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those who knew Gil would describe him as a kind and gentle soul, whose faith-filled life was a source of inspiration. His gentle demeanor, combined with a strength that was rooted in his unwavering belief, made him a devoted friend to many. Gil's life was a testament to the power of his kindness, and the profound impact one person can have through simple acts of love and steadfast devotion to the principles he held dear.

As we bid farewell to Gilbert Henry Hoppe Jr., we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey gracefully completed. May the memories of his kind spirit, melodious voice, and heartfelt laughter be a comforting embrace to all who mourn his passing. Gil's life was a melody of faith, family, and friendship that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched for generations to come.
