Gilbert Hughes Obituary
Gilbert Hughes, 62 years of age, was called home on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 in a Corpus Christi hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in San Diego, Texas on March 15, 1962 to his parents, Porfirio and Rebecca Hughes. Gilbert was a graduate of San Diego High School class of 1980. He worked in construction and oil field most of his life and retired form San Diego ISD where he worked in the maintenance department. Gilbert enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, golfing and hunting, he was an avid Dallas Cowboy Fan, Texas Longhorns, Spurs and SD Vaqueros Fan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Porfirio and Rebecca Hughes, a sister, Liona Hughes and a brother, Jessie Joe Hughes.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 28 years of marriage, Georgia Parr- Hughes of San Diego, Texas; his children, Gilbert Hughes Jr. (Cathy Lynn) of San Diego, Texas; Audrey Ann Hughes (Dakota Grossman of D'Hanis, Texas; Lyza Renee Hughes (Victoria D. Lopez ) of San Antonio, Texas; George Evon Hughes (Jewell -Leigh Mae Hibbs) of San Antonio, Texas; five sisters, Rebecca (Alfonso, Jr.) Perez of Kingsville, Texas; Rosalinda (Oscar) Saenz of San Diego, Texas; Idolina (Nefi) Luna of Corpus Christi, Texas; Maria Luisa Wright ( Jose Rodriguez of corpus Christi, Texas; Lisa (Jay) Southerland of Waxahachie, Texas; two brothers, Porfirio (Angie) Hughes of San Antonio, Texas; Ruben Hughes of San Diego, Texas; two grandchildren, James Ram Hughes and Logan Ameri Grossman; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 12:30 pm that day. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024 at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Interment will follow at San Diego Cemetery #2 in San Diego, Texas.
