Gilbert Montoya Obituary
Dr. Gilbert G. Montoya passed away with his family by his side on December 24, 2025. He was born on July 10, 1937, in Wagon Mound, NM. He married Cecilia Herrera August 8, 1960, in Gallup, NM and had three children, Joyce, Georgia, and Roman. He graduated from Wagon Mound High School Class of 1955.
He completed his undergraduate degree at NM Highlands University, a Master's and Doctoral degree from The University of New Mexico. He worked as an educator and counselor and retired from UNM with the College Enrichment Program.
He is preceded in death by his grandson Matthew Q McClintock, his parents Juan and Mercedes Montoya; four sisters, Estella, Leonora, Eliza, Cecilia and his brother Estevan.
He is survived by his wife Kay, his daughters Joyce (Bob), and Georgia (Javier), son Roman (Ruth) and stepdaughter Erin (Jens), his eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren,
The family will be celebrating Gilbert's life at City on a Hill, 3715 Silver Ave SE, Albuquerque, NM on January 10, 2026, at 10:00 am. A reception to follow.
