Matthew Garcia Obituary

Matthew graduated from Wagon Mound High School May 2002 and Luna Community College with an Associate of Science degree in pre-Engineering December 2022. Matthew became a Geotech certified Geospatial Educator in November 2023, where he was prominently honored for this prestigious achievement. Matthew lived his life seeking experiences through his various ventures. Matthew worked as a lineman for the Springer Electric Co-op, the Philmont Scout Ranch, TVI-now Central Community College, Walmart, New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute, Zeigler Geologic Consulting, served as a Sergeant at Arms for the New Mexico Legislature and was currently working at Luna Community College. Matthew was an avid collector of antiques and coins.
Matthew is preceded in death by his father, Leo Garcia and brother, Daniel Garcia. He is survived by his Daughter Mickey Garcia, son, Matthew Garcia Jr. of Las Vegas, NM, son Santiago Vigil of Ojo Feliz, NM, and wife Michelle Garcia of Las Vegas, NM; mother, Aurora Garcia of the family home in Ocate, NM; brothers: Paul Garcia and wife Louisa of Ocate, NM; Mark Garcia and partner Paulina Aguilera of Albuquerque, NM; Thomas Garcia and wife Vanessa of Ocate, NM; and many nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives and many friends.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 10:00 am at Rogers Mortuary Chapel. Interment will take place at the Garcia Cemetery in Naranjos, NM, with the following serving as Casket Bearers, Paul Garcia, Mark Garcia, Thomas Garcia, Santiago Vigil, Michael Garcia and Marcus Garcia. Honorary Bearers are his children Mickey Garcia and Matthew Garcia Jr.
