Frances R. Maes Lopez, 98, a lifelong resident of Wagon Mound, NM was taken from us December 22, 2022 to be with her Heavenly Father. Frances was a devout Catholic all her life and was a member of the Santa Clara Catholic Church, Wagon Mound NM. Frances was born to Jose Maria Maes and Emilia Espinoza Maes. She was preceded in death by her Loving Husband, Gustavo (Gus) Lopez, Her Parents, Sons Bobby Lopez (surviving Spouse Dolores) and Ralph Lopez (surviving Spouse Peggy), her siblings Margarito, Ben, Orlando, Juan, Eloy and Theresa (Maes) Valdez. She is survived by her Son Edward (Eddie) Lopez and Brother Vicente Maes and wife Angelica, and Grandchildren Angela (Spouse Travis Johnson), Alyssa (Spouse Tim Murphy), Estrella (Spouse Bernie Jaramillo), Frances (Spouse Castillo Cordova), Robert Lopez (Linda), nine Great Grandchildren, one Great Great Granddaughter, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special recognition to Nieces Stella Romero, Adrie Maes and Nephew Bill Maes.
Frances was very social, generous and loving. She graduated from Wagon Mound High School in 1943; worked at the Wagon Mound Post Office as a Clerk and Post Master. Frances and Gus owned and operated the Wig Wam Bar in Wagon Mound for many years and many life-long friendships were made. Frances enjoyed cooking and baking, enjoyed holidays, and prepared many empanaditas, biscochitos and other delicious pastries and dishes. Frances had a beautiful singing voice, and in her early years sang in the Santa Clara Church Choir. Other interests included dancing and watching her sons play basketball for the Wagon Mound Trojans. Later in life her favorite past-time was spending time with family and close friends.
Rosary Services will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 6:00pm and the Funeral Mass on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 10:30am both services will be held at the Santa Clara Catholic Church in Wagon Mound NM. Interment will be held at the Santa Clara Cemetery, Wagon Mound NM following Funeral Mass. Pallbearers will be Arthur Maes, Bernie Jaramillo, Diego Jaramillo, Robert Lopez, Tim Murphy and Travis Johnson. The other nieces and nephews will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Special Thank You to Starlight House Caregivers, High Desert Hospice, and all the relatives, friends that visited Frances at the Starlight Assisted Living House.
