Gilbert Salk
Gilbert Salk, proprietor of the former used and rare bookstore Books and Birds, in Manchester, CT, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024. He is survived by his daughter, Lauren Salk, wife Kathy Salk, brother Russell Salk, grandson Oscar Clayton, aunt Rose Grossman, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Gil loved books, birdwatching and photography. In his later years, he found a second career as an artist's model. He was politically active and engaged in the community, from his college involvement with the Martin Luther King Social Action committee to numerous committees in Hebron, where he lived for over 40 years.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Friends may call on Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the CT Audubon Society, 314 Unquowa Road, Fairfield, CT 06824. For online condolences, please visit www.mulryanfh.com .
