Gilbert James Shahan

Gilbert James "Pete" Shahan, 78, passed away surrounded by his loved ones and friends on January 31, 2024, in Cleveland, TN. Born on September 19, 1945, to parents Luther and Louise Shahan, Pete set forth on a life journey that would be marked by hard work, service to his country, and an abiding devotion to those he held dear.

Pete grew up in Birchwood, TN. The rolling hills and lush forests of Tennessee provided the perfect backdrop for his many adventures' coon hunting and fishing, activities that brought him immense joy and an enduring sense of peace. He also enjoyed playing bingo with his friends at the nursing home.

Pete spent his career as a logger, a profession that was as much a calling as it was a means of livelihood until it took him out of active work. Equally significant was his honorable service in the United States Army, a testament to his patriotism and his dedication to the values he held in high regard.

He was the patriarch of a loving family that extended beyond the confines of his household. Pete's memory will be forever cherished by his daughters Mekesha Evans (John), Jamie Davis (James), Susan Walker, and his son Wesley Weaver (Jane). His grandchildren-Johnathan Evans (Michelle), Haley Suttles (Jeff), Cody Espy (Jeremy), Austin Davis, Tayler Davis, Aliyah Edwards, Ali Jane Labay (Quintin), Courtney Lloid (Seth), and Laura Cohen (Zach)-and his eighteen great-grandchildren. Pete's sisters Margie Foote and Donna Kidwell, alongside his special friend Celia Rogers, also survive him.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Tommy, Johnny, Dennis, LJ, and Zane Shahan, and his sister Billie Miller, and son-in-law Jason Walker.

The staff at Bradley Healthcare & Rehab Center became a second family to Pete, affectionately known as "Pops." Immense gratitude is extended to these caring individuals, including the nurses and CNAs who brought joy into his life.

A gathering to honor the memory of Pete Shahan will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and a final visitation on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Companion Funeral & Cremation Service, the funeral service to follow. His final resting place will be at McInturff Cemetery in Birchwood, TN. Pallbearers will be Hailey Beaty, Johnathan Evans, Austin Davis, Claude Whitener, Terry Nicholson and James "Outlaw" Howard. Pastor Frank Wright to officiate.
