Gilbert Fredric Storey Jr.

Gilbert Fredric Storey Jr., age 78, of Thealka, Kentucky, passed away Friday March 13, 2026, at Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Storey, was born and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee on November 21, 1946 to the late Gilbert F. and Velma L. (Coates) Storey, Sr. Mr. Storey, was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, Tennessee, but he attended Thealka Freewill Baptist Church.

Mr. Storey was a retired Emergency Medical Technician and was a retired funeral attendant with the Childers Funeral Home in Meally, Kentucky. He was also a Volunteer Firefighter.

Mr. Storey was a Past Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampments in Tennessee and Kentucky of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He served as Grand Scribe of the Grand Encampment of Kentucky for several years before his death. He was also Adjutant of the Department Council of Kentucky, Patriarchs Militant. He was a member of Inez Lodge #286, in Inez, Kentucky, Canton John C. Underwood #8 in Lexington, Kentucky, Solomon Encampment #109 in Inez, Kentucky, and a member of Pleasant Valley Rebekah Lodge #116 in Paintsville, Kentucky.

Gilbert is survived by his wife Wilma Castle Storey; step daughter, Sandra Lou Goble of Blue River, Kentucky; two sisters, Pauline A. Storey of Gray, Tennessee and Patricia M. Nedved of Kingsport, Tennessee; brother, Richard K. Storey of Jonesborough, Tennessee; special grandson, Andrew Preston Goble of Blue River, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2026 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with Gary Blair officiating. Burial will follow in the Castle Cemetery, Boyd Branch, Thealka, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2026 and 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2026.
