Gilbert Wilhelm Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home & Crematory on Mar. 25, 2025.
Gilbert Leroy Wilhelm, a beloved member of the Cincinnati community, was born on May 9, 1924, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and passed away peacefully from natural causes on March 22, 2025. He was 100 years old and lived a life rich in adventure, service, and community.
A proud veteran, and member of 3 VFW's Gil enlisted in the Army on April 12, 1943, and served with honor until his discharge on October 27, 1945, achieving the rank of Private First Class and receiving the Silver Star for his bravery. Then he began his life of devotion to his beloved wife Eleanor and together they raised their wonderful son Charles. His commitment to service continued throughout his life as he devoted much of his time to his local church and the Scouts. Known as "The Go-To Guy," he served as a scoutmaster and mentor for Troop 14, guiding many young people on their journeys of growth and discovery.
Professionally, Gil made his mark as a skilled machinist at LeBlond Machine, where he worked in the manufacturing industry with dedication and pride. Although he completed his education between the 9th and 12th grades, his wisdom and experiences shaped him into a respected figure in both his career and community.
An avid outdoorsman, Gil embraced life with a passion for hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing, and whitewater rafting. He shared his love of nature with family and friends, fostering a sense of wonder and adventure in all who knew him. His spirit of camaraderie extended to the Hartwell seniors, where he engaged actively, making countless friends in his golden years. He also was a founding member of The Cincinnati Vintners Club and he made his own wine. In his free time he also was an avid wood worker building furniture and arts and crafts.
Gil is survived by his loving son, Charles Wilhelm (Cindy), and cherished grandchildren, Eric Wilhelm and Brandon Wilhelm. They, along with many others, will fondly remember his laughter, guidance, and unwavering spirit.
Funeral services will be held at The Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, Springfield Township, OH 45231, where Gil will be laid to rest. In celebration of his life, family and friends will gather to honor his legacy and pay tribute to the incredible man he was. His impact on so many lives will be celebrated, and though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in all who knew him.
As we remember Gil, we invite all who wish to share in this celebration of life to join us in honoring a true pillar of our community, whose heart and spirit touched every life he encountered.
In Lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Queen City Hospice.
Gil was preceded in death by: his beloved wife Eleanor Wilhelm, his parents Frederick and Pearl Wilhelm and his siblings Dorothy Harris, Alice Kittle and Frederick Wilhelm, Jr.,
