Gilberto "Gilbert" Gonzalez Jr., 42 years of age, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. He was born in Alice, Texas on March 16, 1982 to his parents, Gilberto "Hilo" Gonzalez and Martha Everett Gonzalez. He was raised in Rios, Texas and La Bandera Community, Gilbert graduated from Ben Bolt High School, class of 2000. He went on to play college football for Sul Ross University and graduated with an engineering degree. Gilbert worked with Halliburton and serval other oilfield companies, and as a contract well tester. Gilbert enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, and being out at the ranch, he was our life of the party. He was a loving husband, father, grandpapa, son, brother, and uncle that will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. Gilbert will always be remembered and honored by his family and friends, new and old.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gilberto "Hilo" Gonzalez Sr.; maternal grandparents, Jack and Martha Everett; paternal grandparents, Zaragoza and Guadalupe Cantu Gonzalez; father-in-law, Ramon Gonzalez Jr.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 23 years of marriage, Rachel Gonzalez of Alice, Texas; his two daughters, Natalie Gonzalez (Adrian Bear) of San Diego, Texas; Natasha Gonzalez of San Diego, Texas; his step son, Jacob Longoria of Alice, Texas; his mother, Martha Everett Gonzalez (Oscar Garza) of San Diego, Texas; his two sisters, Suzanne (Jevon) Escobar of San Diego, Texas; Yvonne Gonzalez of McAllen, Texas; mother-in-law, Irma Ibanez; four sisters-in-law, Mari (Pete) Cardenas, Rosario (Edgar) Briones, Laura Gonzalez, and Christina (Hector) Anguiano; brother-in- law, Ramon (Lisa) Gonzalez III; his two granddaughters, Alexandra Nevaeh Bear, and Anavey Rae Bear; three nieces, Alisa Tunchez, Alexa Tunchez, Brianna Villarreal; cousin who he considered a brother, Mark Renteria; aunt and uncle who he held very close to his heart, Cindy and Henry Renteria.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Alice, Texas. Interment will follow at Roberson – Collins Cemetery in Alice, Texas.
