Gilda DiRamio Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dello Russo Funeral Home - Medford on Feb. 17, 2025.
Gilda (Crognale) DiRamio, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on February 13, 2025. Born in Introdacqua, in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Crescenzo and Filomena Crognale.
Gilda was a loving wife, mother, Nonni, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She came to the United States on the ocean liner Saturnia in 1947 and settled in Boston's North End. As a young woman, Gilda was an active parishioner at St. Leonard's Church and sang in their choir. She worked for many years as a seamstress and also worked at the famed Schrafft Candy Company. She met the love of her life, Dino, and they were married at Saint Leonard's Church in 1956. In 1966 they decided to make their home in Medford, where they raised their four daughters.
Gilda loved her home and made it a welcoming place for family and friends. She loved preparing wonderful meals for all, enjoyed sewing, crocheting and baking traditional Italian sweets, especially her famous Pizzelle. She was happy gardening and would be seen working in her yard while neighbors often stopped to chat or compliment her on her beautiful flowers. Gilda was a long-time member of the Orsogna Club and sang in their Italian folk group. As a devoted member of St. Joseph's Parish in Medford, she was active in the care of the sanctuary and as a greeter at mass. Gilda will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness.
Beloved wife of the late Dino DiRamio, who passed away in 1995. The devoted mother to Rina Zappala and her husband Alfio of Medford, Diana Mancini and her husband Frank of Middleton, Liliana Silva and her husband Philip of Medford, Patrizia DiRamio and her late husband Michael Madden of Sandwich. A loving "Nonni" to Joseph Zappala and his wife Lindsay, Lisa Zappala, Jacqueline Mancini, Anthony Mancini, and a cherished great grandmother to Noah, Jake and Leo Zappala. Survived by her sister Rosa Crognale, sister in law Loretta Crognale, and many dear nieces and nephews locally and in Italy. Gilda was predeceased by her siblings, Linda Iudiciani, Giulio Crognale and Maria Crognale.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Thursday, February 20th from 4-8 PM and on Friday, February 21st at 8:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated in Saint Leonard's Church, 320 Hanover St., Boston at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

Our deepest condolences to all of Gilda's family for their loss. As part of our extended family, I can still remember the fantastic food spreads Gilda would put out for our family when we visited her and Dino at their beautifully decorated home. The only solice her family can get from her passing is that she is reconnected with her loving husband, who passed way too soon, as did my dear mother Adelia.
