Gilson Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kendrick McCartney Johnson Funeral Home on Jan. 23, 2025.
Gilson A. Williams (lovingly known as "Butch" to his family) died quietly in Pawhuska on January 21, 2025 after a short, difficult battle with lymphoma. He went to be with his beloved wife, Sherry. Gilson was a capable and helpful friend to many people and will be missed.
Born on April 14, 1940 in Pawhuska to Gilson A. Sr. and Delpha Williams, he was the oldest child of three. He was an immensely active member of the Pawhuska Methodist Church, where he was baptized.
He was a member of boy Scout Troop #33, that the Pawhuska Methodist Church has sponsored for many years. During his scouting involvement, he reached the rank of Eagle Scout, which influenced his life.
Gilson gave his time to many committees in the church where he was the Purchasing Agent and the program chairman for Methodist Men for many years. He was always in the kitchen when there were dinners and special functions, adding contributions small but mighty.
He married Sherry on February 4, 1982 in Edmond, Oklahoma. They made their home in the Ardmore area until their retirement in 2003 when they moved to Pawhuska to be close to family. Gilson retired from Transamerica in 1994 and later from the Associates in 2003. During his working years, he enjoyed Transamerica sponsored traveling for work and leisure with his wife Sherry. Gilson and Sherry strengthened their mission involvement with the Emmaus program – participating in several medical missions in Bolivia and Mexico.
Gilson was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Sherry. He is survived by his children Kathleen Williams and partner Ann Eichenberger of Tulsa; Andrew Williams of Memphis; Timothy Williams and partner Jonathan Brown of Tulsa; and stepson James Ledbetter of Claremore. Also surviving are his brother David Williams; sister Linda Boone and her husband Danny of Pawhuska; three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Pawhuska Methodist Church on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 10:00AM. Pallbearers are Dillon Bowers, Tyler Bowers, Danny Miller, Shane Wisenhunt, Charles Bowers and Chris Williams. Interment will be in the Pawhuska Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Gilson's honor to Pawhuska Methodist Church, 621 Leahy, Pawhuska, OK 74056.
Viewing is planned for Sunday, January 26, 2025 10:00AM to 6:00PM, with family present from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at Kendrick McCartney Johnson Funeral Home, 223 E 6th St., Pawhuska, OK 74056.
