Ginger Lee Rush of Columbus, OH, went to her heavenly home on Friday, January 31st, 2025, at the age of 84. She passed away peacefully at Doctor's Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family.
Ginger was born on June 2nd, 1940, in Smithfield, OH, to the late Hayes Hamilton Harris Jr. and Gladys Francis Lett-Russell. Growing up as the middle child, she shared a special bond with her sisters, Pat and Sherry. The family later moved to Cambridge, OH, where she grew up close with her cousins. A 1958 graduate of Cambridge High School, she was actively involved in the school choir, Glee Club, and the G.A.A. Club for athletic girls, showcasing her creativity and diverse interests. These early experiences laid the foundation for the devoted homemaker and loving mother she would become.
Shortly after high school, Ginger moved to Zanesville, OH where she married the late William C. Rush Sr., with whom she shared a life filled with love and cherished memories. Together, they had three children: Brent, Patty, and Bill Jr. She dedicated herself to managing her home and nurturing her family. Later in life, Ginger's nurturing spirit led her to become a trusted caregiver and babysitter, o ering unwavering support and comfort throughout the city. Whether she was caring for family or friends, Ginger's selflessness and ability to serve others were hallmarks of her character. She is leaving behind a lasting legacy of love, compassion, and devotion
Ginger was a longtime member of Greater Apostolic Church of Christ, where she devoted herself to serving the Lord. She was an altar worker, choir member, and usher, faithfully giving herself to her church. After the passing of her husband in 1994, Ginger moved to Columbus, OH, to be closer to her children and granddaughter. There, she became an active member of Greater Christ Temple, continuing her faithful service in the same capacities. Outside of church, Ginger enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching her favorite shows, thrifting, and reading her Bible. A proud Buckeye fan, she never missed a game, and in some of her final moments, wearing her OSU beanie, she looked up and asked, 'Is football on tonight?'. Her faith and love for family were evident in everything she did.
Ginger is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Smith, son, William "Bill" Clyde Rush Jr., grandchildren Destiny Lea (Darren) Smith-Milner, Billy DeGuzman, Maya Alexis Rush, Kiersten Le Rush, Kalei Nicole Rush, Kendrah Paige Rush, and Kia Renee Rush, and two great-granddaughters, Dailey Rae Milner, and Delilah Ann Shackleford and daughter-in-law Jennifer Rush. In addition to her parents, Hayes Harris and Gladys Lett-Russell, she is also preceded in death by her husband, William C. Rush Sr. her son, Brent Lee Rush, sisters, Edith Patricia "Pat" Frenzly, and Sherry Ann Smith, and son-in-law Rickey R. Smith. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones, who take comfort in knowing she is now at peace in His arms.
Lovingly submitted by the family.
