Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions - Beavercreek ChapelIt is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gippie "Jake" Wayne Abney, who left this world peacefully on July 16, 2025, in Xenia, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 1, 1958, in Dayton, Ohio, Jake's life was a tapestry of adventure and love. He embarked on his life’s journey at the tender age of 15, joining the carnival, and eventually became a coast-to-coast truck driver, a profession he proudly held for 30 years.
Jake was a charismatic figure, described as a “people person” who drew everyone to him. His vibrant spirit and undeniable warmth made him a great friend and a brother to all who knew him. As a child, he was known to be a handful, but those close to him cherished his lively energy and zest for life.
Education was a stepping stone in Jake's life, as he attended Fairborn-Baker High School, but it was his countless life experiences that truly shaped the man he became. Jake had a deep passion for family and made wonderful memories that will forever be held dear. He had a unique sense of style, often choosing to wear his Harley boots and jacket to go swimming, a playful refusal to conform to traditional bathing suits. He delighted in pulling his grandchildren on sleds behind his truck in the winter and enjoyed playing Barbies with his granddaughters during their afternoons together.
Above all, his pride and joy were his wife of 45 years, Kelly, and their five children—Shannon Oren, Jason Abney, Jonathan Abney, Justin Abney and the late Joshua Abney. Jake's legacy lives on through his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored and cherished deeply. He is also survived by his brother, James (Wanda) Abney, special friend Beverly Winfield, his furbaby Washee, along with countless nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever remember him.
Jake has joined those who have passed before him, including his son Joshua Abney, parents Gippie W. and Loretta G. Abney, granddaughter Savannah, great-granddaughter Rylea, and sisters Sheryl Gist and Kathy Raliegh. Their spirits will guide him through eternity.
The memories of Jake’s laughter, kind heart, and adventurous spirit will echo in the lives he touched. In honor of his life, visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, OH, on August 8, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
As we reflect on Jake's life, it is evident that he was more than just a husband, father, and friend; he was a beacon of joy and love. His legacy, fondly wrought with memories of laughter, adventure, and deep familial bonds, will forever remain alive in our hearts.
