Girlsin Patraju

Our beloved family matriarch, Girlsin Patraju, peacefully passed away on June 5, 2025 at the age of 82. Born on September 9, 1942 in San Fernando, Trinidad, Girlsin lived a full life, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Girlsin was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to so many throughout her life. She is survived by her children Ravi (Patsy), Liza (Peter), Enric (Kaloutie), Dave (Patricia); grandchildren Candice (John), Adam, Kelly, Kassandra, Amit, Liana, Amrita, Lindsey; and great grandkids Charlotte and Mia (Candice & John). She is also survived by her sister Irene, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her son, Rishi (Lisa) and grandson, Shiva.
Girlsin was an incredible dressmaker and her talents included bridal dresses and Indian-wear. She was a Sri Sathya Sai Baba devotee and spent much of her life in temples, satsangs, and spiritual retreats. Her beautiful and memorable voice in satsangs touched and inspired those around her. She loved traveling and had a special place in her heart for India, which she visited 21 times. Girlsin cared deeply about charitable causes and was quite involved in helping others, especially children and abused women.
Above all else, Girlsin loved her family. Her strong will, determination, and hard work laid the foundation for her children and future generations to experience new opportunities. She was incredibly proud of her grandkids and great grands, always supporting them throughout their many life events. She touched so many lives, and always did her best to lend a hand or an ear to anyone who needed it. You could always count on her to ensure that everyone was fed, and make social gatherings entertaining, funny, and full of love.
Visitation and memorial activities will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at Asian Indian Funeral Service, 12-3pm (75 Woodbridge Ave, Highland Park, NJ). The funeral and cremation will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Holy Cross Crematorium, 9-11am (840 Cranbury South River Rd, Jamesburg, NJ 08816). Her smile, wit, and passion for those she loved will be deeply missed as we lay her to rest.
