Gisela Luise Hoeger passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025. She was born on August 17, 1932, in Berlin, Germany, to Georg and Johanna Schulze. She was an artist, a gardener, a seamstress, a chef, a Girl Scout leader and most importantly, Mama to Sandy and Heidi and Oma to Neil, Eric, Alex, and Sam.
Gisela immigrated to the United States in 1956 where she began a courtship with Alfred. They were married in early 1957. Gisela worked in an office while Al finished up his engineering degree. In June of 1958, nine months pregnant, Gisela and Al moved to St. Paul, MN, where Al could begin his career. Later, an opportunity arose to move to Colorado where they had once spent their honeymoon. In Denver, Gisela’s many hobbies included sewing, painting and gardening. The family spent many weekends exploring Colorado, hiking, camping, and fishing. They lived happily in Denver for almost 30 years.
Upon retirement, Gisela and Al moved to Prescott, Arizona, to begin the next phase of life. They were both busy volunteering. Gisela worked at the Chamber of Commerce, and with Al, delivered Meals on Wheels. Along the way she began to learn patchwork and created the most colorful, beautiful quilts anyone could imagine. She also kept busy with Rosemaling and Bavarian barn painting. Friends and relatives are all lucky to have some of Gisela’s art in their homes. When they decided they needed to be near family again, Gisela and Al moved back to the Denver area. Heidi was there to watch over them and to support Gisela when she lost her beloved Ali.
Gisela was a talented soul with myriad interests in life. She was smart, loving, friendly, and leaves behind many people touched by her. We will miss you, Mama and Oma. Your photo albums will be a comfort for many years to come.
