Michael was born on September 24, 1975, in Manchester, the son of Donald and Carlyn (Trumm) Hoeger. In 1993, the summer of his junior year of High School, he entered into basic training with the United States Army National Guard in Fort Benning, Georgia. He was a part of the 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry. Mike graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in 1994 and continued to serve with the Army National Guard until 2000, when he transitioned to the Navy Reserves. In 2003, Mike deployed to defend the United States of America in Operation Iraqi Freedom in the 2nd Gulf War.

Mike was united in marriage to Cathy Pritchard, and they later divorced. One son was born to this union. Following a life altering accident in 2004, he attended Kirkwood Community College and earned a degree in Web Development. He then worked at IBM from 2011 to 2018. Mike enjoyed Skyping with people around the world, and through these virtual meetups, he learned several foreign languages. Mike was heavily involved in The Wounded Warrior Project after his military and war time involvement. Mike treasured his tractor collection, especially his John Deere 830.

Prior to his injury, Mike enjoyed riding dirt bikes, Taekwondo and boxing. He was an avid history buff with a wealth of knowledge, which was accompanied by his quick wit and sense of humor.

Mike is survived by his son, Micheal Hoeger II of Delaware; stepsons, Staff Sergeant Anthony Crawford, US Army of Fort Riley, Kansas and Jake Berry of Oelwein, Iowa; siblings, Linda (Joe) Goldsmith of Earlville, Gary (Patti) Hoeger of Earlville, Al Hoeger of Delhi, Sandy (Mike) Mensen of Delhi; Goddaughter, Brianna Mensen: and many special, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
