WATERTOWN, CTGiuseppa F. LaPorta
"Beloved mother, nonna & friend"
Giuseppa Francesca (D'Aversa) LaPorta, 87, of Watertown, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Benito Vittorio LaPorta, who predeceased her in 2014.
Giuseppina, also known as "Josephine", was born on December 18, 1938, in Cercemaggiore, Campobasso, Italy, a daughter of the late Pasquale and Giovanna D'Aversa. In 1957, she immigrated to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and later settled in
Watertown, Connecticut, in 1972, where she made her home and raised her family.
For more than twenty-nine years, Josephine was a dedicated employee of Winchester Electronics in Oakville. Deeply proud of her heritage, she was a lifelong and loyal member of the Cercemaggiore Community Club in Oakville and a devout parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Watertown.
Josephine was a hardworking, generous woman with many talents. An extraordinary gardener, she took great pride in her vegetables and flowers, especially her cherished dahlias. She was also a skilled crocheter and knitter, lovingly creating blankets for family and friends. A talented cook, Josephine was a master at making biscotti and handmade pasta- most famously her cavatelli.
A woman of strong faith, Josephine was a devout Catholic who honored the Madonna della Libera. Above all else, she was deeply devoted to her family and friends, whose lives she enriched through her kindness, warmth, and generosity.
Josephine leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Mario LaPorta of Watertown; her daughter, Silvana LaPorta Moffa of Watertown; and her brother, Michele D'Aversa of Argentina. She also leaves her four beloved grandchildren, Lauren LaPorta Dayton and her husband Michael, Megan LaPorta Guerrera and her husband David, Benjamin Moffa, and Sabrina Moffa; her great-grandson, Luca Guerrera; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends near and far. She was predeceased by her siblings, Maria D'Aversa, Filomena Zurlo, Angelina D'Aversa, and Modestino D'Aversa.
