Gladys Io Brass, 96, of Augusta, WV, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the Winchester Medical Center.
Gladys was born on March 21, 1929, in Hacker Valley, WV, the daughter of the late William W. and Dorsey Jordan Pritt. Gladys was a graduate of Salem High School where she was the valedictorian, and a received a master's degree at Towson College where she was magna cum laude. After graduating from school, she worked as a public librarian and then later found herself in Edgewood Schools where she organized and coached the academic team. Gladys was a very smart and talented person as she would impersonate famous women celebrities and was even called upon to perform for other people. She loved quiz shows as she appeared on "The Who, What or Where Game," a 1970s NBC quiz show featuring contestants answering questions in those three formats and was also on Jeopardy! where she won as a contestant during its fifth season in 1988 (Shows #939 & #940).
Gladys was a member and loved the Heritage Independent Baptist Church in Capon Springs, WV, and enjoyed gardening, canning, reading and puzzles.
Gladys married Daniel Brass in 1954 in Brooklyn, MD. Mr. Brass died January 12, 1999.
Surviving are two sons: Dennis Michael & Daniel Andrew Brass both of Augusta, WV; two brothers: Robert Pritt of Pasadena, MD; Kenneth Pritt of Webster Springs, WV.
She is preceded in death by a brother: Paul Pritt and five sisters: Carol Gumm, Mabel Foercomb, Freda Covert, Elice Ring, and Patricia.
A funeral service will be held at Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Pastor Greg Wilkins. Interment will follow in the Augusta Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
