Gladys Marie Chastain, 94, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025 in Morris, Oklahoma. She was born December 30, 1930 in Kusa, Oklahoma she was a proud member of what has come to be known as "The Greatest Generation". Raised during the Great Depression and World War II era, Gladys embodied the resilience and determination that defined her time.
Throughout her life, Gladys was never one to shy away from hard work. She spent many years as a waitress in the restaurant industry before transitioning into healthcare as a nurse's aide, a role she held with dedication until her retirement. Her strong work ethic and commitment to service left a lasting impression on those around her.
Gladys was known for her grit and unwavering devotion to family. She had a sharp mind and a spirited personality that remained vibrant throughout her life. Those who knew her best remember her as someone who wasn't afraid to question your work ethic-and often did so with a twinkle in her eye.
One of Gladys's greatest joys was traveling with her beloved husband Fred. Together, they made it their mission to attend their grandchildren's sporting events, school plays, and weddings. The moments brought them immense pride and happiness. A shared hobby between the two was giving nicknames to just about everyone they met - a testament to their playful nature and deep affection for those around them.
Gladys is survived by her daughters: Joyce Maylen and her husband Larry of Morris; Peggy Hampton and her husband Hansel of Eufaula; and Julie Green and her husband Bret of Morris. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren who will carry forward the legacy of love and strength she instilled in them.
She is preceded in death by her husband Fred Chastain, her parents, Robert and Ona Hughes; siblings Evelyn, Bill and Maxine Holt; and sons Billy and Freddie Chastain.
Gladys Marie Chastain will be remembered for her fierce spirit, enduring love for family, and the wisdom she shared so freely. May her memory bring comfort to all who know and loved her.
Viewing for Gladys will be from 6 - 8 pm, Thursday, September 11th, 2025 at Integrity Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be, Michael Ring, Erick Ring, Raegan Warren, Nixon Warren, Gabe Green and Zach Green.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 12th, 2025 at Integrity Chapel with Bret Green officiating. Interment will follow in Morris Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
