Gladys was born in Las Cruces New Mexico on August 13, 1952. She was the twelfth child born to (the late) Roosevelt and (the late) Mae Dona (Givens) Boyer. Her childhood in Vado, New Mexico was filled with God, family, friends, music, and singing. Glady loved to use her God given singing talent and could belt out a beautifully toned soprano melody with ease. Gladys (aka the baby) was the last of her siblings to attend school at Gadsden HS in Anthony, New Mexico and continued her education at New Mexico State University by earning her BA in Education, and also became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
After graduating from NMSU, she made her way to New Jersey for a short time, then lived in Illinois to be closer to her sister (late) Carolyn. However, the cold winters and some persuading from her sister (late) Thelma in California helped her with the decision to relocate to San Diego where she established roots. While in San Diego, she attended Bethel AME, serving on the Layman’s committee and the choir with dedication. For her service in God’s army, she received several accommodations from the Church. In 2022, Gladys decided to retire from working and move to El Paso with the help of her nephew Ben; with a plan to live in Vado in her sights.
God has a Plan for our lives and only He knows that Plan.
God’s Plan was for Gladys to struggle no more and to come home to be with her Lord and Savior (most likely directing the heavenly choir or leading angelic songs in the heavens).
On July 5th, she joined the RA Boyer band of angels gone before her; (father), Roosevelt A. Sr, (mother), Mae Dona, (sisters) Ardelia, Norma, Thelma, Carolyn and (brothers) Roosevelt A. Jr., Robert, Bruce, baby and baby boy.
She leaves many to reflect and remember the good times; (sister) Shirley, (brother) Lawrence Carver, sisters in law Debbie (Carver), Bobbie Jean (Roosevelt) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
We will miss you but we will listen for your song in the distance. Sing on Angel, Sing on…
