Gladys A. Koniewicz

Gladys A. Koniewicz, age 96, died peacefully on April 9, 2022.
Born on September 19, 1925, in Utica, NY, Gladys was predeceased by her beloved husband, Walter A. Koniewicz, her mother, Adeline Belanger, her father, Edwin Belanger, her grandmother, Sarah Wheeler Drake, her daughter, Mary Ellen Koniewicz and her son, Gary A. Koniewicz.
Gladys is survived by her daughters, Gail A. Mahar, New Berlin, Susan M. Koniewicz-Everett, Clinton, and her son, Paul A. Koniewicz, Oklahoma. Gladys leaves behind ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
Gladys throughout her life loved to knit and crochet; having made beautiful afghans for her grandchildren; shared now by her great-grandchildren.
A generous and compassionate woman, Gladys gave of her heart to many having fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse in her forties; a career she postponed in honor of her father's wishes.
Residing at the NYS Veterans Home at Oxford during her final years following the death of her beloved husband, a WWII veteran, the family offers a special thank you to the home for their care and compassion for their mother and acknowledges the respect and dignity they provide their residents and families alike.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Our Lady of the Rosary Campus, New Hartford. At Gladys' request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will take place in the family plot in Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica.
