Gladys Lawrence, 82, of Lima, passed away on February 28, 2026 at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home. She was born on December 3, 1943 in Lima to the late Richard “Dick” Compton and Fern {Bozman} Davis.
On August 12, 1967, she married Russel Lawrence Sr., who survives in Lima. Together they shared 58 years together. Gladys was very involved in her church; Bethlehem Tabernacle in Van Wert, where she also was a Pastor. Later, she attended Full Gospel Temple of Love in Lima. She enjoyed puzzles, playing cards with her friends and family, especially her sisters, fishing, and of course, going out to eat. Gladys was known to have an “open door” home, never turning away anyone who needed help.
She is survived by her husband, Russel Lawrence Sr., children: Russel Lawrence Jr., Guss (Kam) Lawrence, and Faith (Bill) Baker, special son: Cole Burklund, grandchildren: Alexis (Harold) Hamblin, Austin (Bella) Lawrence, Chase Ehrnsberger, Cloey Ehrnsberger, and Autumn Baker, great-grandchildren: Bailey Hamblin, Noah Hamblin, and Luna Thatcher, siblings: Dixie Hahn, Donna Overhosler, Judy Bowers, Rev. Larry “Joe” (Ardith) Compton, Karen (Danny) Wireman, Bonnie Stauffer, Doris (Tim) Stevenson, and Tina (Marcus) Lori, sister-in-law: Ann Compton, and nephew: John (Dawn) Holbrook, who the family was so grateful for.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Fern (Ralph) Davis and Richard (Mary) Compton, granddaughter: Lyla Baker, siblings: Betty (Guss) Holbrook Jerry Compton, Butch (Phyllis) Compton, Robert Compton, and Francis D. Compton, brother-in-laws: Ed Hahn, and Marion Bowers, and sister-in-law: Lois Compton.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 5, 2026 from 10 A.M.- 12 P.M. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, where a funeral service will follow at 12 P.M. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lima.
