Lawrence “Butch” E. Oglesbee, 81, of Elida, entered Heaven with his Savior Jesus Christ on February 21, 2026. He was born in Lima, Ohio on October 8, 1944 to Herbert and Mildred {Hetrick} Oglesbee, who preceded him in death.
On November 30, 1963, Butch married Karen Buetner, who survives. They enjoyed 62 years together. Butch retired from Scot Lad in 2000.
Survivors include his son: Chad (Tina) Oglesbee and his daughter: Angie (Kevin Bockey) Evans; grandchildren: Katie Oglesbee, Brandon (Jennifer) Evans, Kayla (Nick) Allison, and Levi Oglesbee; great-grandchildren: Isabella, Addison, Jordan, Chey, Dakota, Savannah, Levi, London, Scarlet, Cayden, Cambri, Chloe, Cali, and Lincoln; sisters-in-law: Joan Oglesbee, Ruth Oglesbee, Kathy {Buetner} Davis, and brother-in-law, Brad (Joyce) Buetner.
Butch was also preceded in death by his son: Jaden Layne Oglesbee; brothers: Jack Oglesbee and Herb Oglesbee; sisters: Ginny Weissling, Marlene Gagnon, and Ann Spencer; brother-in-law: Dave Davis.
Butch’s quiet presence was full of kindness. Butch’s family was paramount to him. Family celebrations and reunions were special times for him. Butch loved his winters in Florida with Karen and his summers boating and fishing with his family and good friends in Coldwater, Michigan. Butch played football for Columbus Grove High School and his enthusiasm for sports was lifelong. He was proud to support Elida’s School Sports Programs. He also found joy in his trips to the casino.
A Memorial Service will begin at 1 P.M. on Saturday. February 28, 2026 at Spencerville VFW, 130 S. Broad St. Spencerville, with a Celebration of Life immediately following. John Zerbe will officiate the service.
